This weekend several members of Poland First to Fight took part in the Museo Vivo de Valencia, organized by the Asociacion de Amigos del Museo Militar de Valencia. This year the Museo Vivo was very special because it was also celebrating the 20º Anniversary of the Museum.
The members of Poland First to Fight proudly protrayed the uniforms of the "Brygada Karpatica" ( Independent Carpathian Rifle Brigade), this unit was formed with polish soldier escaped from Poland across the romanian frontier who managed to do their way to the french protectorate of Syria. In june 1940 after the fall of France, and knowing that french authorities in Syria loyal to Vichy intended to disarm the unit, the whole brigade escaped to Palestine, under british control.
From September 1941 onwards, the Carpathian brigade fought gallantly in the defence of Tobruk until the relief of the siege, then, in december took part in the ofensive of Gazala.
The unit was later used as the core for the formation of the 3rd Carpathian Rifle Division.
